Dear Alumni,
Happy
Year of the Rat to all of you and your family! I hope this year will
not be too much of a rat race for you. May I wish you success not
just on your professional front but also on your home front as well.
Sit back, relax and savour all the good things that are to come your
way.
Earlier
back, a handful of our Committee members have been commissioned to
set up a Community Service Sub-Committee. Now that it has been up and
running for a few years, it has proven to be a genuine success with
the events organized to-date attracting a handsome turnout from our
alumni and their families. The old adage that “giving is more
beneficial than taking” certainly seems to have rung true for
participants in these events and the horizon of our younger
generation has been broadened to care for those who are less
privileged in society. The Sub-Committee is sourcing meaningful
causes in the months ahead, so please stay tuned.
“Saving
our planet” and “the restoration of our blue sky” have been
extremely hot topics in our community
of late. Together, they speak volumes about the growing concern for
environmental preservation.
We believe it is high time our Association echoed such eco-conscious
pleas and
reduced our carbon footprint in whatever way we can. Since the
election of the Executive Committee
2008, a brand new Green Initiative Sub-Committee has been brought
into being to
head worthwhile projects to help instil in us the urgency to avert
further meltdown of our planet.
Since the Green Initiative Sub-Committee is still months short of its
first anniversary, all
brain-storming suggestions are highly valued and welcome. Please do
not hesitate to contact
Dr Philip Leong, head of the Green Initiative Sub-Committee, with
your comments.
Reporting
on the Landmark Fundraising Campaign of our Alma Mater, I am glad to
convey the message
that funds raised to date have soared past the figure of $320
million. This represents a
ground-breaking success which is probably first of its kind for
institutions of primary-cumsecondary education in the history of Hong
Kong. Do join me in a hearty round of big hands for
Mr Chien Lee, Dr Michael Mak and all members of the Landmark
Fundraising Campaign Committee.
It further goes to demonstrate the solidarity amongst our alumni
which cannot be
decoupled from our love for our Alma Mater. The matter however does
not stop here. In view
of the anticipated inflation and the need for perpetual maintenance
and upgrading of hardware
and software facilities of our Alma Mater, let us keep up the ongoing
momentum and
pledge to continue our support, big and small.
Last
but not least, do continue to shower us with your full support and I
look forward to seeing you
at our forthcoming functions!
Yours sincerely,
Ma Ching Nam
Chairman
