46 SPCCAA
Having left SPCC after Form Two, I had not, apart from a
handful of close friends, seen many of my former classmates for
decades – that is, until our recent 30
th
homecoming and reunion.
I heard myself asking: 30 years? Has it really been that long?
It was almost unbelievable. So, when I was first asked to help
coordinate the effort to contact our classmates for our 1A class,
my first reaction was: you must have chosen the wrong person
for the job! Yet, with a little apprehension, I rose to the challenge
and looked up my partner coordinator, Florence Chang. Slowly
but surely, and to our pleasant surprise, we managed to locate
almost 30 of our classmates, who now live all over the world.
Returning to campus on Homecoming Day was certainly an
interesting experience. Starting with assembly in the School
Hall, playing the piano to accompany Florence who led the
School Hymn (just like the old days), I felt like I was at school
all over again. The Hall has been beautifully renovated, and yet
I could still see the shadow of the old structure floating in my
mind. Wandering around the school brought back many fond
memories. Our former 1D, E, F classrooms are no longer there,
but the tree in the courtyard still stands strong. Our former
1A classroom is still there, looking much newer – but the two
big windows at the back remain the same. With so many
of our classmates gathering there at the same time, I could
almost see ourselves back in our school uniforms, chatting
away during recess. The old gym, where we used to have our
daily assembly in Form One, looks the same, and yet it felt
somewhat smaller now that we are all grown up.
While we were reminiscing about the good old days, we could
also see how much the School has progressed over the many
years. The new gym, built within the space of the foundation of
the old Primary School, is beautiful. The new lecture hall is well
designed and practical. All the new classrooms are well equipped.
The boarding facilities are world class. This is certainly a campus
that present and former St. Paulians can all be proud of.
